Пісні бабусі:Baba’s Song 🌻

August 22, 2019

Hi dear friends and readers. After many long silent years, this is me learning (attempting) to speak/sing my native Ukrainian. Whew! This was a tough one for me…on many levels. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your continued support and kind words. 🙏🏻

With love and gratitude,

Nina Zain

This is for you, Baba.

    1. Thank you, David. 🥰 Good to see you here! When writing this, I thought of you telling the story of your Grandmother at the table. Made me smile. Hope all is well.

  1. I can only imagine what it’s like to connect with a language that has such meaning to you. Whatever the meaning, you made it sound utterly beautiful and effortless. It felt like you put your heart and soul into it. I hope to hear more 🌼

  2. It’s a beautiful language. I am only English speaking (a little German and Spanish, too), but the flow of all language is interesting to listen to. Listening to you speaking Ukrainian with the English subtitle had a wonderful feeling to it. The flow of the words made sense and had an old world feel to it. It felt like the Mother Tongue. That’s the only way to describe how it felt in hearing it.

    What a beautiful post!

    1. Hi Ian! Good to see you back! What a wonderful description—Mother Tongue. Yes, I wanted this to have an “old world” feel. The way I remember my Grandmother. Glad you enjoyed this!

My father also spoke German (and several other languages too) English was tough for him—but he kept trying. Spanish is also a beautiful language to sing! I think Linda Rondstat. Have a wonderful day, M’Dear! And thank you for visiting! 😊

  3. I love to hear you sing, it’s so calming, especially since my head is swirling like the current in the river today. And that sounded so wonderful in Ukrainian. I look forward to more! Please keep it up!😁😸🌞🌳🌻🌼

    1. You are most welcome and thank you. As the daughter of immigrant ethnic minority parents—growing up in America (and God bless America🙏🏻) I never fully grasped the beauty of “the old world” from which they came until much later in life. And while now, it is just a haunting memory—I see the ghosts are very kind, compassionate and forgiving.

Thank you so much for listening and for your encouraging words. Yes, I hope there will be more songs sung. 😊🎶🙃

  5. I love, love, love this! I put my earphones on so I could hear it. I love that you were singing in the background and all the beautiful sounds of the water and birds. Your gardens are lovely! What a sweet voice you have. You are a blessing! ❤ Have a beautiful Sunday! ❤
