Continued from Chapter 4: The Monster
The old woman knew that if the boy was unwilling to contend with his own monster now, both he and the girl would suffer for years to come. And she knew (from experience) the girl who had yet to discover her own strengths had yet to discover her own dark side. She was naive.
“May I come tomorrow and hear the rest of the story, grandmother?”
With a pensive nod, the old woman smiled and then suggested to the young woman she say a prayer upon retiring:
Holy Spirit
My guiding light
Keep me safely in your care tonight.
That night, the young woman dreamt…
“Arrgh!” The more she struggled to get free from the web in which she found herself cocooned, the more entangled she became. She had to admit defeat. There was no escape. And she could hear laughter…
“You came back to me, my love! I knew you wouldn’t leave me.”
This enraged the girl. She prayed:
“Holy Spirit…oh what’s the use? I got myself into this mess. No one can help me now.”
The girl sank back, surrendering to her ill-fate. She heard another voice speak:
“My dear child, no one who calls upon My Name in their hour of need, will I abandon. ‘Tis true, you now find yourself in a dangerous circumstance; however, nothing is too great for Me.”
The girl, comforted by these words, began, “The boy I love needs my help…”
“Dear child, each must face what is inside their heart. He must do this alone.”
“But why then did he bring me here to this awful place?”
“Love.”
Now the girl confused,
Confessed, “I don’t understand.
If this is love, why does it hurt so?
Why would he push me to he point of despair…”
“By the love of My sacrifice, child—it is finished now
To the heart in need of forgiveness
Forgiveness
Is
Given
If
Accepted.”
If. Each must face what is inside their heart.
And the girl turning inward, seeing her own dark-heart
Shattered
Wondered—
If
She could forgive and
If she could accept forgiveness for herself.
She flinched.
And then,
She felt something by her side.
“Take now, My Sword that you may be set free.”
And without a moment’s hesitation the young girl held onto the Sword of the Spirit, cutting through the web of delusion and emerged ready to stand against the enemy—
The enemy, fearing for her own selfish desires, turned away from the boy, “Oh so you want to play do you, foolish girl. You think you are a match for me?”
To be continued…

This is so well written. Indeed we need to fight our inner demons, help ourselves, forgive our broken hearts before we can fight the demons of those we love, help them through their dark times. Yes, love is never a happy flower laden path, there are thorns and sharp pebbles and emerging through everything is what makes love gorgeous. 🙂
I cannot wait for Chapter 6

Hmmm. The boy doesn’t seem like he’s strong enough. You cannot heal the one who does not want to be healed.
Very interesting story- and although religious, it is very symbolic and can be see from many other perspectives than what it was intended for.

High praises thank you. Yes, lots of symbolism here and archetypes. An old story retold with plenty of poetic license. So what do you think—should I keep going and finish the story? It could go a lot of different ways.

Nina, each chapter is a richly embroidered tapestry. On the surface it seems like a simple story of good vs evil but symbolism and a mystic element run deep through it. ❤️😊

Excellent story Nina. Definitely ‘food for thought ‘. I keep thinking if I am willing to forgive myself and others what if the others won’t forgive me.

Thank you, Ally. This is a great question—one that I also think of too as there are those in my life who may not be willing to forgive me. We can’t control how others behave, only ourselves, so what can I do differently? I’ll have to think on this some more. I touch on this a bit in chapter 6–which is now posted. I’d like to hear more of your thoughts…

No, there no match for; “the Sword of the Spirit.” That’s how you fight through, whatever apposes the heart! Will catch up on the rest later. Blessings!
