Today I would say the beautiful scent of the little white flowers on my Calathea plant. I think the robins around here would love to see some worms though, but it’s just too cold! Have a nice evening Nina!😁😸🌙

Ooh—what’s a Calathea plant? Sounds nice. Do you think Robins can hear the worms? I wonder…
Thanks for checking in, Steve! Hope you are feeling better! 😊🌸😴

Calathea are a large family of plants, all have variegated leaves, normally why people buy them is for their beautiful leaves. This is the first one I have had that had flowers, about one inch across, pure white, but hidden down among the leaves. But such a beautiful scent. Sometimes called a “prayer plant” because the leaves fold up on some varieties at night, mine doesn’t. I need to look this one up and try to figure out which specific variety it is. I wouldn’t mind getting another one. I’m mostly better, just that tired feeling still. Thanks.
Hope you are doing better now.😃😺🌞

Ahh—I just googled calathea. They are the beautiful plants in the nursery that I admire from a distance but shy away from because I’m terrible with house plants. “Prayer plant”. That sounds nice right now. Smells nice too!
Gad you are feeling better—keep resting! I’m also feeling better—still staying low, still get tired too. Our bodies are trying to take care of us. Clever. 😊💓🌸

They really are beautiful plants and very easy to grow as well. I prefer plants that are easy.
Yes, feeling better, guess I did have a fever alright, now that I feel normal I can tell the difference. But still so tired, I do just a little and then have to stop, such an odd feeling.
Nice to know you are mending well, soon the gardening will want your attention.
Yes, robins “hear” the worms, with their feet. They can feel the vibrations of the worm beneath the soil. Amazing how many animals can “hear” with their feet. Hard to believe it’s so warm your way and still so cold here, and getting colder!
Enjoy your weekend Nina!😃😺🌞☕☕

No way! Really? That’s how robins hear? Cool. I see them out on the lawn with their heads tilted like they are listening. Neat.
Yes, I need easy indoor plants that can tolerate me neglecting them🤣 I’m actually having luck with orchids. They are much easier than I thought.
Gardening is back on the menu. Weeds don’t wait for anybody. At least there I can keep to myself. Planted lettuce in a pot today.
I know the odd feeling…sleepy…must sleep…sleep more. It will pass.
Enjoy yours too, Steve! A special time indeed—and lots of people paying attention too! See you soon! Be well.🐝

In reality I guess it could be said that it’s a 3 way hearing. As they run across the lawn and stop, they are “listening” with their feet. If they feel something, then they tilt their head to try and hear with their ears, if it’s close enough to the surface, also using their eyes to see if there is any movement of the worm sticking it’s head out or moving the soil a bit. It’s actually quite a complicated system they have. The woodcock is even more amazing in it’s ability to “hear” with it’s feet quite deep. Wonderfully made these little birds.
Just Muffin and I this weekend, which is normal anyway.😁😸😻

Yes indeed! Wonderfully made little birds. Speaking of—the Swifts have just recently returned. They make me happy too! I’ll have to look up the woodcock. So interesting. Thanks for that, Steve. I’ll be around this weekend too.😁

Wow, swifts back already, we don’t usually see them until May! They are amazing birds too, can stay aloft for months or even years without ever sitting down, except for nesting.
Hey, that’s great. I’ll be showing my calathea and flowers in part 2 today.😁😸🌞☕☕

I’ll check it out! I’m hoping the Swifts nest again here this year.

They are amazing birds, some species stay airborne no matter what they do, they even sleep while flying and they fly high when they sleep. Only half their brain shuts down while they sleep so they can still function for flying. An amazing bird from God’s wonderful creation.

Oh good! I hope sooner than later! But I understand completely.
I am well. Getting over this nasty little corona bug. It’s no joke! Had some difficulties breathing, but got through it with the help of steam inhalation with eucalyptus oil and a very patient husband. I just couldn’t get any air. Scary stuff.
I feel for all those who have suffered with this…so many. And yet, I feel too there is so much hope. We are learning so much because of this suffering. I’m always hoping for the best😊

I am so sorry to learn that you have had this nasty virus. I am pleased you feeling better now.
I was in Christchurch from February 12th – 26th. I got sick and developed the symptoms of the virus. On returning back here in Brisbane I still had shortness of breath and sore throat but no fever. I have been tested and thankfully a negative result. I am still experiencing shortness of breath but it’s manageable. I do have Pernicious Anemia which is an Autoimmune Condition which makes me highly susceptible to viruses etc. I have been told by hospital and GP to stay at home. 🙂.

Oh wow, Ally. I wonder what else is going around? Shortness of breath is a horrible feeling. Glad you tested negative. Stay home and stay well! I don’t know about pernicious anemia. Is it different from anemia?
I haven’t yet tested—waiting for the antibody test which I hear is on the way. When symptoms first came on—fever and then chills and then sleep—I slept a solid 20 hours I couldn’t even think about leaving the house to get tested. Now I just want to quarantine/rest in the sunshine in the garden until I’m sure I’m over it—whatever it is!
On a happy note—some really positive things came out of this experience for me which I’ll write about one day. Love is a mystery. 💓

Pernicious Anemia is caused by the bodies inability to absorb B12 due to an ineffective Intrinsic Factor. I have B12 injections every 3 months.

Oh I see. Hmm…now I have to google this and read more about ineffective Intrinsic Factor. 😁 thanks Ally!

It’s amazing what you can learn on Google. I was diagnosed with it way back in 1991. My new doctor recently retested me to confirm, he explained it well just the same Google explains it.

If you said ‘puffer’ here in America people would think you were talking about marijuana! 🙃. I hope you don’t need to go back to puffers either. What else can you do for it?
We get it here with grass pollen season. Just when we really want to be outside too.

Haha…😂…no marijuana. Breathing exercises seems to help a bit.
It started again while staying with my brother in Christchurch…I put it down to old pillows, years of dust etc 🙁.

Yes breathing exercises—I do some simple yogic ‘pranayama’ breathing exercises. They certainly helped me get through the attack. Just to keep me calm and not panic. Something so simple and so essential—the breath.
Are you sure you aren’t allergic to your brother🙃?

Thanks much appreciated. I will check out ‘pranayama’ breathing exercises.
As for my dear brother I can tolerate him in small doses, the same goes for the other brother 🙃. I live in another country which makes me safe, although one of them regularly calls me to tell me what he bought at the shops, who he told off for sitting in the disabled area on the bus and so on 🤣.

My goodness Nina! I am so so glad you are ok now! 🙌🏼 There are some who think it already swept though our area starting in November of last year. I was sick first around November and my hubby was sick in December before his surgery. We both had a cough, fever, difficulty breathing and was sick in bed for a while.
Please take it easy until you know you are better girl!

Oh Renee I’m so glad you’re ok too. I had no idea you were so sick. Hopefully now we’re stronger because of it. Waiting for the antibody test to come out to see for sure. There have been so many crazy virus floating around out there—SARS. Sudden Acute Respiratory…it’s no joke! Breath is life.
We are learning so much because of this pandemic—and this is a good thing.
Yes, I’m keeping low on my bum, resting in the sunshine, pulling weeds digging in the dirt. Where do worms come from? How far did they have to travel to get to my compost pile? Hmmm….life’s mysteries.🌈🤗🐛💓

It is refreshing, I think, when we realise that the simple things in life can be a source of happiness…for me, now, walking one street to the supermarket becomes the highlight of the day! Incredible! I hope that when we come out of this pandemic that some of the things we give value to will be reassessed. At least I certainly will…Lovely post Nina and have a lovely Easter weekend.
All the best,
Francisco
